Still Time To Join Us at GIJC15!

Big thanks for the incredible response to the Global Conference next week. It's going to be an amazing time. We now have over 170 sessions and 850 journalists from a record 121 countries heading to Lillehammer. You can still join us! There are cheap flights left. Lillehammer hotels are nearly sold out, but plenty of rooms through airbnb and in nearby Hafjell.

Getting to Lillehammer

Wondering about weather and transport in Norway? Don't worry... The Oslo Airport is just 140 km from Lillehammer. If reindeer sleds aren't your thing, trains leave every hour (**:59) and tickets can be bought at the airport. There will be a GIJC15 desk at the airport to help. Wonder what to pack? Bring a warm jacket and good footwear. The average high for October is 6 C (44 F) and low is 1 C (35 F). The area around the conference venue is great for a walk or run.

Investigative Film Fests

'Tis the season for investigative film. Every evening at GIJC15, we’ll be screening some awesome documentaries. Among them is the world premiere of Assignment China: Follow the Money, the behind-the-scenes story of journalists who exposed the wealth of top Chinese leaders -- and the harsh consequences they faced. Also, today starts Double Exposure, America's first Investigative Film Festival in Wash., D.C., organized by GIJN member 100Reporters.

New UN Goal: FOI

Thanks to lobbying by press freedom groups, the UN's just-adopted development goals now include "public access to information." The new goal "has potentially transformative implications for the free flow of information and independent media development worldwide," writes GFMD's Bill Orme.

GIJN Votes on Board, GIJC17

Big votes and a membership meeting for GIJN: Starting Monday, GIJN holds a week of electronic voting to choose seven board members and the site of the next Global Conference. There will be presentations on GIJC17 at the GIJN membership meeting at the Global Conference on Friday, October 9, 2015, from 5-8 pm in Lillehammer.
