Investigating Africa

The African Investigative Journalism Conference convenes next week, Nov. 7-9, in Johannesburg. GIJN will be there with host Wits University Journalism Programme and an all-star cast that includes ICIJ's Africa team, amaBhungane, INK Centre, Africa Uncensored, and Africa Check. And we'll be back next year for our big event: the Global Investigative Journalism Conference. Don't miss this one: It's the GIJC's 10th anniversary and its first time in Africa. Lots happening in Africa these days. Check out our notes from last month's Southern African Investigative Journalism Conference in Botswana.

Int'l Day To End Impunity

Nov. 2 is International Day to End Impunity, called by the UN to help bring an end to the rampant attacks on journalists worldwide. We're running a series this week to mark the event, including UN Freedom of Expression Rapporteur David Kaye's The Assault on Reporting and a chilling account of how just 63 of the decade's 827 killings of journalists have been solved. No more getting away with murder!
