Making the Case for Muckraking

GIJN is at work on an exciting project to showcase the impact of investigative journalism around the globe. We're looking for research that demonstrates how investigative reports have affected corrupt practices and caused reform. Have a suggestion? Send it to GIJN's deputy director, Gabriela Manuli. This Google Ideas-supported project will feature an interactive website and a video with interviews from the Global Investigative Journalism Conference in Rio. More to come in the next months!

After Rio: New Initiative by Investigative Journalism Education Consortium

This week, the Investigative Journalism Education Consortium (IJEC) launched an initiative to bring together journalism educators worldwide who teach investigative reporting. The idea to internationalize IJEC came out of the Global Investigative Journalism Conference, where for the first time GIJN organized a professor's track. Educators from six continents found they had much in common and were eager to continue the conversations and share research and teaching methods. The track was organized by Brant Houston, Knight Chair of Investigative Reporting at the University of Illinois, with assistance from GIJN and others. As a first step, IJEC is publishing papers from the conference

New Crowdsourced Page: A Guide to Investigative Books and Films

In June 2013, Mark Lee Hunter invited our colleagues on GIJN's Global listserv to name the book-length works of journalism, scholarship, and even fiction that had influenced their practice as investigators. The result: our most popular resource page yet, featuring more than 80 books and films. This unique compendium includes works in English, Dutch, French, Italian, and Spanish.
Are You on the Global Listserv?
Global-L is one of the best-kept secrets in journalism. This is an open mailing list for GIJN members and others interested in global investigative journalism. Have a question on finding data or documents overseas? Need a contact on the other side of the world? Ask 600 of the world's smartest journalists. You can subscribe here.

SKUP Survey on Biz Records
Attention business and public records experts: GIJN member SKUP, Norway's investigative journalism association, needs your help crowdsourcing a survey on the right to information about shareholders in private corporations around the world. Please give them a hand by answering their survey (just three questions). Thanks!
