Great Stories Mark Investigative Awards in U.S., South Africa

Awards in South Africa and the United States this past week offer a powerful reminder that investigative reporting is alive and kicking. “The next time you hear someone lamenting the loss of great investigative journalism, show them this list," observed Ziva Branstetter of the U.S.-based Investigative Reporters and Editors. Among the highlights: “The Real Death Valley” by The Weather Channel & Telemundo; and “Firestone and the Warlord” by PBS Frontline and ProPublica. Meanwhile, in South Africa, the Taco Kuiper Awards honored impressive reporting on illegal gold mining, cable theft, graft in the teacher’s union, and more.
