GIJN Weekly Bulletin -- April 29, 2015
Journalists in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East: We want you in Lillehammer! Here's how you can join us:

For Individuals: GIJN and SKUP have opened a fellowship program for journalists needing help to attend the Global Investigative Journalism Conference. We’re looking for both proven and up-and-coming investigative and data journalists eager to learn and help spread great reporting around the world.

For GIJN Members: GIJN member organizations in developing and transitioning countries can partner with the Secretariat on fundraising. We’re already working with members from Brazil to Ukraine. Send us an email and let's get your reporters to Lillehammer!
Are you a journalist who's done brilliant investigative work in a developing or transitioning country, despite threats or duress? The Global Shining Light is the only award that honors your work. The winner receives a commemorative plaque and US$1,000 -- plus a trip to the Global Investigative Journalism Conference this October, where you'll accept the award in front of hundreds of colleagues worldwide. Deadline is now extended to May 15.
The Verification Handbook for Investigative Reporting is a new guide to research techniques to using user-generated content (UGC) and open source info in investigations. Published by GIJN member European Journalism Centre, the manual consists of ten chapters and is available for free download. We're pleased to reprint Internet search expert Henk van Ess's chapter on chasing after three of the biggest questions in journalism: who, where, and when?
