September/October 2017 - Tennessee, Kansas, and New Mexico...

Hey everyone! Let me tell you what I haven't done lately: art. I've been on the road doing shows (doesn't count as art) and remodeling my bathroom with my father-in-law (definitely doesn't count as art, despite being aesthetically pleasing if I do say so myself). And so I've been missing it, and badly. I did manage to almost finish The Hall of Seasons (16"x20") (yes, I started it in April) between laying tile and putting up sheetrock poorly, but it still needs some finishing touches. Here it is in its present state.

The Last Shows of the Year...

I'll be heading to Nashville (Franklin to be exact) in a couple weeks for Hutchmoot. It's a creative conference that I've been involved with for the past few years. I'm also selling art - mine, as well as several other artists' work - so it's kind of a show too. It's always a good and refreshing time and I'm really looking forward to it.

After that I'm coming back to Wichita for a couple shows, and then heading to Albuquerque in November for a Holiday Show over Thanksgiving weekend. (See the end of the newsletter for show details.)

I just bought a book called Finish by Jon Acuff, which is all about - you guessed it - finishing things. I've only read the first chapter so far, but he talks about throwing perfectionism out the window in order to get things done. Perfectionism is, admittedly, one of the things I struggle most with. But I'm going to take the author's advice and shed my perfectionistic straightjacket and finish the Cora story. It won't be perfect, but it'll be done. I'm shooting to be finished by the end of the year.
The Portal. But Also a Fitting Picture of the Bright and Limitless Future Before Me as I FINISH Things!

Sebastian and Maximilian

This is Seb in Omaha, knowing he's cool despite his blistering sun shirt. And this is Max on his 6 month birthday, looking like he's in a baby food commercial or maybe running for office.
The Still Boys
That's all for now! Check out the shows below to see if I'll be near you soon!
