Dear friend,

The task of ensuring our institutions are more transparent and accountable always excites us. In August we organised various activities across different states, engaging citizens and government officials and sharing findings.

Here is what we want to share this month.

PPDC Unveils DTS Research Report

On 24th August we unveiled our report on the recently conducted research on government procurement of Digital Technology Systems in Nigeria.

The report examines the Nigerian citizens' awareness of the procurement and investment of DTSs by the government and how the use of DTSs affect the human rights and privacy of citizens.

Some key findings from our research indicate that there has been increased procurement of digital technology systems over the years, yet the level of transparency remains low.

It was also observed that citizens are not aware of the procurement of DTS and the rationale for data collection by the government.

Attaining Fiscal Transparency in Public Procurement

We continued our engagements in Anambra, Ekiti, Kaduna and Akwa Ibom to share and validate findings from our ongoing research on the level of fiscal transparency in the public procurement chain.

The goal was to Identify loopholes, make recommendations and commitments that would improve transparency and provide better service delivery in the states. Several CSOs and MDAs were represented at the events.

Fully Functional Project In Ondo

We love to see fully executed and functional projects, it gives us some type of extra excitement!!.

We monitored a 2019 State project by UBEC/SUBEB for the renovation of 6 blocks of classrooms at Stephen's Anglican Primary School, Odo Sida, Ondo state and it was such a delight to find that students are learning in a comfortable and conducive environment.

Blog Corner

“After a contractor who was awarded the renovation work at the Government Junior Secondary School in Kenyi, Kaduna State, Northwest Nigeria, stripped a block of classrooms naked − leaving no roof, windows and doors − he abandoned the project”.
