What we do?

We increase access to bicycles for all ages and income levels; children, adults and families, low, very low and no income. Seeing the value in all people we seek to reconnect, restore and encourage all members of our society through the meaningful use of bicycles. Through our programs we provide bicycles, bicycle maintenance and skills training for all.

We unite people with bicycles! By infusing high crime marginalized neighborhoods with social ride celebrations of life, unity and health we decrease violence and increase familiarity and humanity across cultures, ethnicities and communities.

5 years of wins and still rolling...

For over 5 years Rich City Rides has worked successfully to get more people than ever to leave their cars at home and experience the joy of riding a bike. Since our humble beginnings in August of 2012 we’ve refurbished over 600 bicycles and placed them back into the hands of the community providing low cost transportation for those in need. By rescuing discarded bikes and creating new commuter cyclist, our efforts have diverted 5 tons of landfill waste and greatly reduced Co2 emissions.

We’ve hosted over 200 social rides, nearly 300 bicycle repair workshops, repair clinics and bike fixin’s and in 2014 we founded the Rich City Rides Bike Skate Cooperative Shop, a Richmond based cooperatively owned democratically run small business owned and operated by 100% POC Richmond residents. Local advocates, translocal organizing!

Rich City Rides works with youth, community members, city and regional staff to advocate for better local infrastructure and support for programs that get people riding bikes as a healthy active way of life. We also connect with communities across the country to share, learn and develop techniques for creating safe sustainable cities without displacing the historic residents who live there. Every city should be developed with the conservation of the environment and with the improvement of the economic stability and health of the people as its focal point.
