Structurae-Newsletter - 2/2014

Dear <<First Name>> <<Last Name>>,

As promised in our last newsletter, we have analyzed, compiled and summarized the results from our online survey. We were surprised by some of the responses, others confirmed things we already knew or expected. I don't want to spoil anything, so feel free to download the summary as a PDF file.

Given the Olympic Games in Sochi we've also taken up the theme of winter sports for this newsletter. There are quite a few structures in Structurae that were built specifically for those kinds of sports!

Best regards,
Nicolas Janberg
Editor-in-Chief, Structurae

Report of the month

The white arc over the Rhone river

Since September 4 it is there: the great white arc over the Rhone river in Lyon. What optically almost floats posed an enormous challenge in technical respect, because the steel arc bridge which caters for pedestrians, bicycles and a tram, had to be safeguarded against uplift forces. Maurer Söhne had the solution with uplift bearings of a design that was used earlier in German railway bridges.
