Elizabeth Romero Announces Candidacy for State Senate

Democrat Elizabeth Romero has announced her candidacy for State Senate District 28. This seat was previously held by Jeff Stone, who recently resigned from the Senate to accept an appointment in the Trump Administration.
Elizabeth Romero is an elected Trustee for the Riverside County Board of Education and works for U.C. Riverside where she serves as the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Governmental and Community Relations.
“As the daughter of immigrants and the first in my family to graduate from college, I know firsthand how a quality education can transform lives,” Romero said. “That’s why I am so passionate about advocating for public education and college opportunity. In the State Senate, I will be a leader in the fight for more educational funding, quality schools, career technical education and affordable college.”
Romero previously served as the Director of Community and Government Relations for Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest. She also managed the Building Healthy Communities Initiative which was funded by the California Endowment.
“As a healthcare advocate, I directed efforts that resulted in the enrollment of over 17,000 new people in the Affordable Care Act, providing healthcare coverage to families and children for the first time. I also helped secure $100 million to grow the UCR School of Medicine to train more physicians to keep up with the healthcare demands of our growing region,” said Romero. “I want to continue this important work, ensuring access to quality healthcare, lowering drug prices and making sure our seniors and people with disabilities are able to stay in their homes and live with dignity.”
Elizabeth Romero was born in Thermal and attended local public schools, College of the Desert and U.C. Riverside, where she obtained her BA degree in Political Science. She earned her Masters Degree from Claremont Graduate University.  Elizabeth and her partner, Luis, have a son, 1-year-old Aaron.
