Swakriya Yoga and the Five Elements:
A Five-Day Immersive and In-Depth Retreat
Swakriya Yoga is a contemplative practice in which we learn how to identify each of the five elements in our own bodies (earth, water, fire, air and ether) with the corresponding elements in Nature. In the process we widen our sense of self. Imagine being in a conference center surrounded by woods, lakes, and trails where we can do our practice with Swamiji surrounded by the elements themselves.
We will start with the earth element and create our foundation on the earth (“I am grounded and one with the earth”). On the second day, we will sit by the water as we meditate on the water element ("I am joyful—Maujan!”) On the third day we will gather at the fire pit and contemplate fire and everything we want to let go of (“I am letting go of everything that stands in the way of Oneness”). On the fourth day, in the fresh air, we will delight in the air element (“I am full of love, spreading it everywhere”). And finally, we will contemplate space as we identify ourselves with the vast sky (“I am one with space, with emptiness”). Doesn’t this sound amazing?
Swamiji will spend an entire day on each element teaching us the visualizations, affirmations, mantras, mudras, and asanas for each element, all the while encouraging us to be joyful! We all know what about his contagious state! In the process we widen our sense of self (aham or I am) to the point where we become united with the One (Aham or God).
