Community Transition Support Newsletter
Welcome to the final CTS newsletter for 2016

On behalf of the CTS team and INLLEN, I would like to thank the network of 22 specialist schools, community agencies, local government and local business and industry partners who have worked toward improving school - post school outcomes for young people with a disability.

The NW LLEN CTS Management Committee have worked on the development of the new CTS Strategic Plan for 2016 – 2018. CTS will continue to work with local partners to build on the work of the initiatives across the region. More information about these are provided below.

Specialist School Transition Network

This term the SSTN meeting was hosted by Northern School for Autism in Lalor. The members heard from Greg and Sandra Francis about their son Patrick who transitioned from school a few years ago and is now an established artist and sports person.

The members participated in a range of workshops facilitated by the Planning Committee and CTS, and started the planning process for meetings in 2017. To find out more about what was covered at the last meeting, click here.

2016 CTS Data Collection

Earlier this year, a second round of data collection on the post school destinations for students transitioning from specialist schools was collated. The report is currently being finalised and will be available in the new year. To read about the first round of data collated in 2015, download the full report here.

CTS Case Studies

CTS has developed a number of case studies on local school-community partnerships as well as individual school – post school transition examples from across the North West Melbourne region. Of particular relevance is the launch of the Ticket to Work Video that showcases 6  perspectives of being involved in the model. To view this video click here.

It has been a successful and busy year for the Northern and Western TTW projects! 13 specialist schools have engaged in the project. Over 20 community services providers have participated in the program and contributed in some way. In 2016 alone, 42 student candidates applied for a School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship (SBAT) and were interviewed by the Working Party groups. To find out more click here.

The Steering Group members for this initiative have committed to supporting the implementation of a self assessment tool as the next phase of the strategy. Three local government agencies have committed to undertaking an organisational self assessment on how information is shared within the organisation and externally for people with a disability. A number of schools and TAFE have also committed to undertaking this process. To learn more, click here

CTS are currently developing the portal to provide members access to career related information with options to share what is happening across the region.
