Fall / Winter 2021
Welcome to Granite City Folk Society's 2nd virtual concert season.
The pandemic is being more stubborn than any of us anticipated, so
the Society's Fall concerts will remain virtual at least until
January of 2022, when we hope to return to in-person concerts.
Meanwhile, look for our
on-line concerts
on Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:30 PM CST

Our artists will be performing via streaming services.
These streaming platforms will vary, so note the links for the individual events.

There is no ticketing for these performances,
but the artists will be operating their own virtual tip jars.
Be generous--we're all running on fumes these days.

We hope to get back to live-in-person concerts shortly after the 1st of the year.

Tom Mason
Thurs, Dec 9. 7:30

Tom Mason's performing personas include a pirate, the fool from Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, and an Elvis-impersonating Christmas elf. Back when he was a Minnesotan, he played rock with Paul Westerberg, among others. He eventually wound up in Nashville, where he wound up in theater, toured with a Johnny Cash musical, and formed Tom Mason and the Blue Buccaneers. He has served as music director and composer for the Nashville Shakespeare Festival--where he also got to play the fool, theatrically speaking. What we'll get in his on-line concert is anybody's guess, but it will be anything but dull.

"Somewhere in the twilight zone between Tom Waits and Kid Creole & his Coconuts there's lots of room for rocky, bluesy Vaudevillians like Nashville's Tom Mason. Mason is a raconteur in the '30s cabaret tradition, where Brecht & Weill met the Ringling Bros & Barnum and Bailey. Absolutely not your average Nashville singer/songwriter. . . ."  --Evert Wilbrink, FolkWax Magazine

"The songs touch on blues, vaudeville, gypsy music. . . . This is a delight of Americana music and all the influences that were awash in that country a century or so ago. Tom Mason makes musical alchemy that delivers its magic. . . ." --www.tommason.net" - Stephen Rapid

A joyful melange of American sounds. . . [Mason] displays a familiarity with and love for all the rich veins of twentieth century American music." --John (Biscuits & Gravy) Davy, Flyinshoes.ning.com

Special thanks go out to our season sponsors, GrandStay Residential Suites, Bo Diddley’s Deli, and CMAB for their generous support.

Donations are tax deductible and offer donor recognition & thanks. This is not a profitable enterprise. Our ticket sales typically do not quite cover musician compensation, much less printing, advertising, theater rental, insurance, etc., etc. We have in recent years been fortunate to receive grants to help defray expenses, we have received in-kind donations from our season sponsors, and we have also enjoyed increasing support from patrons such as yourselves. Collectively, these are the pieces of the financial puzzle that keep our boat afloat. Please consider a donation. Any amount is greatly appreciated and is tax deductible.
