Jews have lived in Central Asia for over 2,500 years. Many believe they are descended from the Lost Tribes. Why did they go there? Where are they now? We will take a look at their lives and culture over the centuries. The talk will be based upon a study tour the lecturer took to Uzbekistan and the area a few years ago, plus research into the lives and activities of long-distance merchant Jews.
Our speaker Andrée Aelion Brooks is a journalist, author and lecturer specializing in Jewish history. Formerly a contributing columnist for the New York Times, she is an Associate Fellow, Yale University, and founder of the Women’s (political) Campaign School at Yale. Her award-winning books include a comprehensive biography of Doña Gracia Nasí.
