We are deeply saddened to share news of the passing of Mike Ballo Sr. on Sunday night. Ballo was the head professional at Woodway Country Club from 1971-2003 mentoring a number of assistants who went on to become head professionals. His sons, Mike Jr. and Peter, are currently assistant professionals at Westchester CC and Connecticut GC, respectively. When Peter won the Connecticut Open last year, the Ballos became the first father-son duo to win the event, Ballo Sr. having won it in 1969 and 1978. Mike also qualified for three U.S. Opens, three PGA Championships and one U.S. Senior Open. Ballo’s wife Page is a 38-year PGA Professional and the Ballos were an easy choice when the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association named them the Family of the Year in 2020. Mike was inducted into the Connecticut Golf Hall of Fame in 2021.

59th Spring Educational Summit Sponsored by Foresight Sports!

The Metropolitan Section PGA is pleased to announce the 59th Spring Educational Summit sponsored by Foresight Sports! The Summit will be held in person at Westchester Country Club on Tuesday, April 12, 2022. The Spring Educational Summit, previously named the Educational Forum, allows our section professionals the opportunity to expand their knowledge in the industry. The Educational Summit will feature seminars given by James Leitz, PGA and Rick Sessinghaus, PGA and will conclude with a reception.
The Summit will include a continental breakfast, lunch, cocktails and light hors d'oeuvres for all attendees.
Jackets and ties are required for the event.

Looking for Staff?!
In an effort to assist with the difficulty recruiting employees, the Met CMA, Met GCSA, and Met PGA invite all of our Club Managers, Superintendents, and Golf Professionals to take advantage of our Job Fair, showcasing your available opportunities to people interested in working at a club! We will work with all available outlets to promote the opportunity to members of the public interested in working at golf clubs.
There is a nominal fee ($100/club) to cover set up fees, but no additional charges for clubs or job seekers.
All facilities are welcome to participate. With recognition that the location is limiting, we plan to gauge the success of this inaugural event with the potential to conduct events at different (or multiple) locations in the future.
