We have lots of new information and plans to review, as well as a new style of 50/50 raffle to share with you all…

Many of you may not know that part of our budget goes to supporting a school educational program     (CAEP) in partnership with the Department of Fish and Wildlife which was formerly called “Trout in the Classroom”…Rich and Judy Bollinger ( long time club members) do a great job coordinating this program with several local schools in our area…On Saturday morning, March 26th, at 10 AM. till 11:30 AM., at Rancho Simi Community Park/ Ponds, located on the corner of Arroyo and Erringer Ave., we will be doing a trout release with several students…Come and take part in this event and show these eager students your passion for the sport of flyfishng… Also bring your flyrod set-up and help teach a kid how to cast…

For those of you who participated in our January Casting Clinic, Thank you! Don’t feel left out as we will be holding another Casting Clinic on Sunday morning March 27th, from 9 AM till 12 PM at Oakbrook Neighborhood Park, located at 2787 Erbes Rd., Thousand Oaks…Come and practice and get tips on improving your skills from seasoned flyfishing veteran’s with your favorite flyrod and reel…if you don’t have a flyrod set up, no worries we can provide that for you…Also if you need help setting up your flyrod with the right flyline and leader for your rod we can assist you with that as well…This will be a good time getting ready before the season opener in the Sierras…

CLUB OUTINGS | 2022

The THE BOLLINGER’S MAMMOTH ADVENTURE | NEW SHADY REST CAMPGROUND
SUNDAY, JUNE 26 – SUNDAY, JULY 3, 2022
* includes outing to Lyell Creek, Yosemite National Park
MORE INFO:
  • The Bollingers have booked a site at the “New Shady Rest Campground” in Mammoth Lakes.
  • You DO NOT need to be at the campground to participate. There are plenty of hotels, condos, AirBNBs available in the Mammoth Lakes area.
  • We make plans every day on where to meet, go fishing and on most evenings have a club campfire to chat, drink some adult beverages and hang out!
TAKE NOTE:  Rich & Judy will have family there and want some “family days” –  on those days, club members will determine if they want to fish together, hire a guide or just go out on their own and come back for the evening campfire that most likely will happen every night!

PACKTRIP 2022 – in the planning stages.

SCOTT OLSON'S MONTHLY MISSIVE

ANTICIPATION

Not just a song by Carley Simon, but that feeling we get to the approach of fishing season.  For a few of us fishing season is year round, but for most anglers it's the 6 ½ months between the end of April and the middle of November.  So for many the winter doldrums slowly build into the anticipation of what a new fishing season will bring.

So much of our angling success depends on factors beyond our control.  The annual snowpack, the timing and magnitude of the spring run-off, how brutal the winter was and its effect on the resident fish populations, new regulations and fish planting strategies by DFG among others.  It's a giant crapshoot every year where hopefully we don't roll snake eyes.

In a state of over 40 million souls we still have ample opportunities for angling success.  It seems to me that the majority of anglers probably visit and occupy only a small amount of the available fishing water at any one time, so that leaves the bulk of the water to the rest of us who are willing to venture off of the beaten path.  Nothing ventured, nothing gained so to speak.

Whatever your inclination we are still ruled by the capriciousness of nature and how she decides to either bless us with watery abundance or punish us with one more year of drought.  I'm praying for the former, but am prudent enough to plan for the latter.  Keep your fingers crossed for a March Miracle.

Tight lines and fighting fish to all!

- Scott Olson, former president
