VCU School of Social Work
Welcome our new graduates to the Ramily!
Dear SSW alumni,

As you receive this message, we are a couple weeks removed from the successful graduation of nearly 300 students. As with so many events and initiatives in the past year-plus, our creativity and ability to adapt were tested, but we created a unique graduation experience for our students and their guests at City Stadium, home of the Richmond Kickers soccer team.

The school is conferring 177 M.S.W. degrees and 107 B.S.W. degrees to our May and August graduates, along with six Ph.D. degrees. I hope many of you watched the livestream of one or both ceremonies on May 14, but if not, you can find them on our YouTube channel.

Our spring enrollment was at 1,023 students, nearly 300 more than two years ago. As we anticipate returning to campus in August, we project that enrollment will continue to grow modestly. For our return, the university plans an “engaging on-campus experience this fall that will show how being responsible together allows us to be better together.” As we continue to learn about guidelines for in-person events, we look forward to gathering again with you in the near future.

Especially because many of us have been operating virtually, you might already have discovered VCU Link, a valuable networking tool to connect with fellow social work alumni and other professionals as well as to students. Once you create an account, you can search for other social workers using the “Explore the Community” tab. I commend it for sharing resources and advice and for serving as a mentoring option and sounding board for our students seeking guidance on the profession.

To stay connected and informed on happenings at the school, subscribe to our blog, which is updated regularly. We also encourage you to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Sincerely,

Beth Angell

School of Social Work 2021 Commencement

The school graduated nearly 300 students May 14. Some students celebrated in person with Dean Angell, faculty and staff at City Stadium for our B.S.W. and M.S.W. outdoor ceremonies. We are also celebrating awards and scholarship recipients as well as this year’s class of CWSP students. You can congratulate them, offer your words of wisdom and share your graduation memories through our Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages.

Remember to use the hashtag #VCUSSW2021.
