Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site Presents a Sunday History Program and Living History Weekend
FORT ABERCROMBIE - Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site will host a free weekly Sunday History Program from June 5 to August 14 at 2 p.m. The first program on June 5 will include speakers Lenny Krueger, Ron Pfielff, Paul Nelson, and Carole Butcher. The June 12 Sunday History Program will feature Alan Fricker, Candace Simar, Jan Smith, and violinist Kiersten Villand.
On June 7, Fort Abercrombie will be offering tours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. as well as hosting a Richland Elementary Sixth Grade Barn Quilt Display featuring quilts created by the students, and including information on the Red River Barn Quilt Partnership. This day of community events also includes an outdoor concert at Crooked Lane Farm at 7 p.m., and a steak dinner at the Fort Saloon in Abercrombie.
Living History Weekend returns to Fort Abercrombie June 11-12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Both days will feature 1862 blacksmithing demonstrations by Michael Quade, 1862 tinsmithing demonstrations by Karl Schmidt, and book signings with storyteller Jan Smith and Candace Simar, author of the “Abercrombie Trail” series. Saturday features reenactments by the 5th Minnesota Infantry Co. D. 1862 and historical storytelling by Jan Smith at 3 p.m. Also planned for June 11 from 1 to 3 p.m. is the Richland Elementary Fourth Grade North Dakota Wax Museum. During the Wax Museum presentation students will introduce visitors to famous North Dakotans they have chosen to portray after much study and research.
Fort Abercrombie is a state historical site managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota. Summer hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
