* I'm sending this newsletter a day early since one of the Instagram items I share shows a sale Sylvia McFadden is having on three patterns and the sale ends tonight. Scroll down to the Instagram section to see.
It's been an emotional month, and originally this greeting was more morose and heavy but I came to the conclusion that this isn't the place to talk politics, so I erased my draft. With that said, I prefer to share where I'm at so I haven't completely strayed from the subject. This week two of my long-distance friends reached out to me in near desperation simply because they know that I share the same political values as them. I am so glad they did because now I know who I can call if I need an ear, too. Which brings me to local super-crafter Kim Werker's  new craftivist newsletter! I already love what she does in her practice and craft newsletter, so it feels good knowing who I'm inviting to help fill my inbox with ideas.

Something else that has helped me this week is posting these posters in my neighbourhood. My friend (and Van Island artist) Corrie Peters offers them in her project, Ways I Have Been Fooled (2016). They are available for free download here . They are good reminders for those of us who have fewer barriers to success - with messages like, "My success is not solely a product of my hard work".

These frightful current affairs have actually urged me to knit more. I've been on a major knitting hiatus since I started weaving tapestry in 2013, but for me knitting has always been the ultimate therapy. Weaving is therapeutic, too, but knitting is my 'hobby craft'. Weaving is work. Awesome work, but still work. Besides knitting a Pussy Hat this month I've also finished an adaptation of Elena Nodel's My Honey Cardi, (which is now in Texas with my brand new niece, Maggy) and I am half-way through a baby Flax Light pullover in Malabrigo sock yarn (above).  These are record amounts of knitting for me! So, lots of therapy knitting happening over here.

PS in an attempt to remain sane while on the internet I've added this plugin to my Chrome browser which turns pictures of today's scary people into kittens. I highly recommend it.

AROUND TOWN...
MY WORKSHOP PICKS
I cruised our 'workshops' page and here are few fun things I found:
  • This Saturday morning Crafty Creations in Delta is teaching Intro to Fairisle with Tin Can Knits' Banff Hat.

  • Starting Feb 8th Wet Coast Wools is teaching a three day (over three weeks) West Coast Cardi workshop.  I'm excited to try this Jane Richmond pattern myself one day because she offers blank graphs with her pattern so you can design your own images to knit (so many possibilities!). Sign up here.

  • On February 18th Baaad Anna's is hosting a morning Zippers workshop with Holli YeohLearn how to insert zippers into your knitting while creating a closure that looks great from both sides.

  • As of January 20th Fibres West workshops are open for registration! Fibres West is a textiles marketplace occuring in mid-March in Surrey BC featuring vendors, workshops, lectures and demonstrations. They are in their 9th year! I'm teaching a full day Tapestry Weaving 101 on the Friday.
Recently on our Pinterest
I'm drooling over these knitting patterns by Canadian designers Jenny Wiebe, Jumper Cables and Heidi Kirrmaier
