Free Events Coming Up at Pembina State Museum and Gingras Trading Post
 

BISMARCK — A free series of public events, titled "The Métis: The Culture, The History, The Archaeology," will be held at the Pembina State Museum and Gingras Trading Post State Historic Site on Saturday, August 8.

At 10 a.m. at the Pembina State Museum, Kade Ferris, tribal historic preservation officer and tribal archaeologist with the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians, will present "Ethnohistory of the Plains Chippewa and Métis People of North Dakota and Minnesota." Free tours of the Pembina State Museum will begin at 11 a.m.

Free afternoon programs open to the public will also be part of the annual Gingras Day Rendezvous held at Gingras Trading Post State Historic Site on August 8. Site tours, educational exhibits, and informal on-site interpretation and discussions will run throughout the afternoon beginning at 2 p.m. Award-winning Métis fiddler Gabe Brien of Belcourt will perform a concert at 2:30 p.m. featuring a special blend of fiddling and storytelling. Bring lawn chairs or blankets, as site-provided seating will be limited for the concert.

These events are sponsored by the State Historical Society of North Dakota and North Dakota Archaeological Association. The State Historical Society of North Dakota manages the Pembina State Museum and the Gingras Trading Post State Historic Site.
