Free Event will Screen the First Hour of Downton Abbey’s Final Season

Bismarck, ND –The Emmy® and Golden Globe® award-winning drama “Downton Abbey” on Masterpiece will return for a sixth and final season on Jan. 3, 2016. Local fans can be the first to see it early at a Bismarck screening event of the first hour of the new series.

Prairie Public Television and the State Historical Society of North Dakota will host the free premiere screening at the ND Heritage Center & State Museum on Sunday, Dec. 27, at 2 p.m., followed with complimentary tea and dainties. Fancy hats and clothing are encouraged but not required.

“During last season’s premiere event, most attendees dressed in the spirit of the show,” said Kimberly Jondahl, Communications & Education director with the State Historical Society. “Some fans wore vintage hats, beaded dresses, bowler hats and bow ties. We invite people to attend wearing period dress if they wish.”

Downton Abbey is the most-watched drama in PBS history time and one of the highest-rated dramas now on American television.

The series is executive produced by Gareth Neame, Julian Fellowes, Liz Trubridge, and Nigel Marchant. Rebecca Eaton is the executive producer for MASTERPIECE, presented on PBS by WGBH Boston. Funding for the series is provided by Viking River Cruises and Ralph Lauren Corporation with additional support from public television viewers and contributors to The MASTERPIECE Trust.

The North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum, managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota, is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. For information about additional upcoming events, visit history.nd.gov/events.
