Possible new internet provider on Douglas Lake
RACC Enterprises, LLC is negotiating with The University of Michigan to utilize the UMBS tower to provide wireless broadband internet access service in our area. If an agreement is reached, RACC Enterprises will need a commitment of 20 to 25 year-around customers before installing equipment on the tower to begin service. They are requesting the DLIA provide the addresses of serious potential subscribers to evaluate the feasibility of providing the service. Rick Bacon of RACC Enterprises, LLC, provided the following information which may help people decide whether they would be serious potential subscribers when the service is available. Once there are twenty to twenty-five serious potential subscribers, the following applies to determine whether an address qualifies for service:
- Required Application Fee - $50.
- RACC will schedule a test of the onsite signal. If the test fails, the $50 Application Fee is refunded.
- If the test passes, the $50 is applied as the Activation Fee.
- The Basic Installation Fee is $99.
- The Equipment Fee is based on the site conditions; the first level is $160, the second level (bluff or trees) $199, and $300 (extreme case)
- Minimum set up - $309
There may be a $20 charge for a mounting piece or extra cost if the cable runs longer than 40’ or the mounting height is above 12’. The cable will connect to an existing router or to a PC.

The 3mg speed is plenty to watch Netflix or YouTube, but it may not be enough when the kids and grandkids are all using it at the same time.
RACC has provided service to Burt Lake for over 7 years, and is also providing service to Walloon Lake. You may want to contact friends on either lake for an assessment of the service.
