Kitega Centre Uganda - March 2018 Update

Looking back over those years my time with the Centre has helped me realise that it is only in giving of yourself that you really find yourself and that I know I have gained far more from the Centre than I have been able to give to it. I have discovered that true meaning and purpose in life comes not from being rich or famous but in showing Christian compassion, humility and love and that these come when we are sensitised by such things as working alongside the Kitega community and children. March 2019 is here, and there is no better month to officially start the celebration! The Kitega Centre dream is officially 20 years.

Thankful for the far the Centre has come, and for the lives it has influenced.

Stay tuned for updates and follow us in our social media pages for celebrations updates.

The climax for the celebration is set for 7th July 2019, if you can make it to the Kitega Centre, we would love to have you with us for this celebration and thanksgiving!

And if you cannot come to Uganda, watch this space for updates on different locations we’re friends and well-wishers will host celebration events.

You can also consider hosting a celebration event in your local area.

The children are back to the Centre for the first session of 2019, and here re some of our new children at the Centre.
Sharif and Hannington now known as the twins at the Centre.

The Centre will also be able to provide transportation to some children to come to the Centre at least once a week.

Congratulations Daniel and Esther!!
Daniel is one of the board members of the Kitega Centre and also heads up the Centre’s Legal Aid ministry.
We gladly welcomed Esther to the Kitega family.

Board and executive Retreat

In February, the Centre management held its first retreat, reviewing progress and making some key decisions. The meeting started with testimonies from board members and the staff and indeed “Ebenezer”

The meeting also had valuable input from the Centre volunteers.

Some highlights:

New admissions for children with disabilities for 2019 - (twenty maximum)

Sign language to be offered to the children and wider community.

Desire to see the VICOBA - Plus model reach more communities in Uganda.

Extend the church and community mobilization model to 30 local churches.

Registering the centre as a legal aid service provider to support so many that access services of lawyers.

Prison ministry to focus on unreachable rural prisons.

Education support/ sponsorship to support partner schools in general and not individuals.

Creation of employment opportunities for the children with disabilities at the Centre.

A clear safeguarding policy to be put in place for all involved in the work of the Kitega Centre.

And many others.

Kitega staff and Volunteers

The people that make the work of Kitega possible. We are thankful for their lives and the progress they are making.

The Ramsay family from Scotland will is still serving at the Kitega Centre and their presence has filled various gaps at the Centre. Eight months already, and we can’t be more thankful for the involvement and above all for the life changing experience for their children.

Linda Hooper is also back for 2019, this is her third time at the Kitega Centre and she will continue her work of equipping community counselors and also supporting the children with disabilities.

Priscilla from Spain spent three weeks at the Centre mainly working to advance the agricultural support initiative from friends in Spain and also spent time with the children.

Edith, Milly, Brian,are all in good health and we are thankful for their lives and service.

In January we visted all the VICOBA groups in Uganda to listen to their stories of transformation and encourage them. The testimonies are encouraging and the VICOBA members are continuing to inspire change in their communities.

VICOBA training taken to Democratic Republic of Congo

With support from African Road , Kitega’s VICOBA model has now been transferred to a community in Goma - DRC!!!

UMOJA- Let’s make it happen!

UMOJA House

The Umoja House will be one of the Centre’s activities to mark 20 years.

Once completed, it will House a local bakery, a tailoring section, a resource Centre, special needs sensory room, and a community Hall.

The site has been cleared, and the first phase requires an initial £17,000.

We hopefull that the spirit of Umoja that the Centre champions will be the greatest asset to realise this dream.

So thankful for all that have contributed so far, watch this space as we progress with the Umoja House development.
