San Diego County's Greg Cox Sworn In as NACo President
|
|
San Diego County Supervisor Greg Cox was sworn in earlier this week as the 2018-19 President of the National Association of Counties (NACo).
“I have seen firsthand the ability of county governments to transform lives and communities. When America’s 3,069 counties, parishes and boroughs are united at the national level, we can be an immense force for good. I am honored to lead NACo in this noble effort,” President Cox said in his inaugural speech to the NACo membership.

California County Officials Appointed to NACo Leadership Positions
|
|
National Association of Counties (NACo) President Greg Cox has appointed a significant number of California County representatives to serve as Chairs and Vice Chairs for Committees, Advisory Boards and Subcommittees, providing our counties with a strong voice at the federal level. A total of 13 California Counties are represented in these positions.

Today, the Legislature announced hearing dates for the joint legislative Conference Committee on Wildfire Preparedness and Response. The committee will meet at 10:30am Wednesday, July 25, at Room 4202 at the State Capitol.

Federal Recap: From Nashville to Capitol Hill
|
|
NACo’s 83rd Annual Conference and Exposition – hosted by Davidson County/Nashville, Tennessee – brought together more than 3,000 county officials and staff from across the country. The conference, which ran from July 13-16, provided a valuable opportunity for county officials to network, as well as share information and best practices with their colleagues from every corner of the United States.

State Ends Fiscal Year Above Budget Expectations
|
|
Department of Finance (DOF) reports a total of $136 billion in general fund cash for 2017-18. That’s $1.5 billion higher than the 2018 Budget Act forecast. June alone brought in $1.6 billion of unanticipated revenue, mainly in personal income and corporation taxes representative of second quarter returns.

November 1 Due Date for State Mandate Repayment
|
|
The 2018 Budget Act included mandate repayment for counties associated with the cost of providing “AB 3632” services for seriously emotionally disturbed children. The approximate $280 million for counties statewide includes actual program costs and interest owed for the mandated programs that have been provided schools for over five years.
