Dr. Simone Vigod has been appointed the Shirley A. Brown Memorial Chair in Women’s Mental Health Research for a term of five years. The chair is based at Women’s College Hospital (WCH), in collaboration with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) at the University of Toronto.

Call for proposals for the 2017-2018 Department of Psychiatry Excellence Funds. Deadline is tomorrow!

Final call! Submissions for Performing Psychiatry 2018 are due tomorrow!

The Medical Psychiatry Alliance (MPA) at the University of Toronto is currently recruiting candidates for their 2018/2019 MPA Fellowships. The application deadline is Wednesday December 20, 2017.

Dr. Kwame McKenzie has been named one of CAMH’s 150 Leading Canadians For Mental Health.

Evidence Exchange Network (EENet) is excited to release the Sharing Together: Report in Short. Developing an evidence priority agenda for Ontario’s mental health, substance use, and addictions system.

Past Announcements

Dr. Antonio Pignatiello will be stepping down as Associate Chief, Department of Psychiatry SickKids, and Chair of Child and Youth Medical Psychiatry on February 1, 2018.  As such, he will also be stepping down from his position as MPA Director of Child, Youth and Family Health. He will be assuming the duties of Associate Dean, Health Professions Student Affairs in the MD Program, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.

Drs. Petal Abdool and Katrina Hui win the Post MD Education Medical Humanities Education Grant from the University of Toronto.

Dr. Kenneth Fung has received the CPSO Council Award for his work in developing culturally sensitive mental health programs.

It may soon be the law… but is it ethical?

In 2016, Parliament passed Bill C-14, legalizing doctor-assisted suicide. The legislation represents a major change in many ways: from public policy to the practice of medicine. And, in the coming years, it’s quite possible that the scope of this legislation will be expanded, and could include those with mental illness.
