CEO 100 days onboard

Rangelands NRM’s new CEO Debra Tarabini-East has now been at the helm for 100 days. Here’s an insight into what she’s been up to.

Over the last three-and-a-bit months, I’ve been settling into the position of CEO here at Rangelands NRM. I’ve been warmly welcomed by staff and board members. It’s a steep learning curve, as I had not worked in the NRM space previously. And there’s certainly a lot of acronyms to learn!

Cross-cultural exchange with Mongolia study tour

A great cross-cultural exchange occurred when a study tour group from Mongolia visited the Rangelands NRM offices this month. The four Mongolian visitors were interested in learning about Australia’s approach to rangeland management with a particular focus on mining offsets.  [Read more]
Progressing the Spinifex Healthy Country plan to action

On Country trips are supporting strong and connected intergenerational knowledge transfer in the Great Victoria Desert. Following on from 2017’s successful return to Country trip, Rangelands NRM supported the second trip which took place in May 2018. [Read more]
Indigenous fire management supports rare finches and spots elusive possum

The east Kimberley’s Kija Rangers have recorded the first sighting of a Scaly-tailed possum (Wyulda squamicaudata) within Kija country for over half a century. The Indigenous ranger group had been undertaking early season prescribed burning when they made the exciting discovery.[Read more]
Noogoora Burr infestation tackled in Pilbara

Following detection of an infestation of Noogoora Burr on the DeGrey River, a joint management program was commenced to stop it from spreading. Noogoora Burr is one of the most serious and widespread weeds in the world. It is poisonous to stock at the seedling stage, and due to the hooked spines on the burr, it is easily transported. [Read more]
Perth Science Festival 18-19 August

The Festival is back and it is bigger and better than ever at the Claremont Showgrounds, Perth! Experience explosive shows, more than 50 hands-on activities, roving performers, native animals, competitions and more. Rangelands NRM and Perth NRM will be sharing a stand. Come and say hi!

Job Advert - Regional Landcare Facilitator with Rangelands NRM

Rangelands NRM is looking for a dynamic Regional Agricultural Landcare Facilitator/Project Manager. They will provide on-ground support and guidance to the pastoral industry across the southern rangelands of WA and will be responsible for delivering activities which support the rangelands pastoral community to increase their participation in sustainable land management. National Feral Cat Survey

The National Feral Cat Survey is open - The Survey is asking Australians about feral cat management to generate a better understanding of the national effort to tackle this threat. It aims to determine the extent to which feral cat control is occurring across Australia, and to estimate the number of feral cats that are removed from the environment each year. ECU students tour Gascoyne

Rangelands NRM would like to thank all of the land managers that participated in the recent Edith Cowan University Study Tour of the Gascoyne. To demonstrate the impact this type of engagement has on future researchers/policy makers/practitioners and leaders of natural resource management, one of the students--Kale Brooks--shares his experience. [Read more]

Grants and funding
Volunteer Grants 2018 - The Australian Government is inviting applications via an open process to apply for funding to support volunteers under the Volunteer Grants Activity. The Grants aim to provide small amounts of money that organisations and community groups can use to help their volunteers and form part of the Government’s work to support the volunteers who help disadvantaged Australian communities and encourage inclusion of vulnerable people in community life.
