“Animals on factory farms all face pain and fear, just like the animals we share our homes with, yet are repeatedly abused in shocking ways.” — Peter Dinklage

Activities

45 Chinchillas have been Saved!

With the help of the Mrkvica Organization, our carefully executed action saved the lives of 45 chinchillas! After the Croatian ban on fur farming, which was introduced on January 1, some fur farmers responded to our appeal to put the animals into a shelter. The same incentive has been gaining support across Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia as well.

Shelter Dogs will No Longer be Killed!

Reports concerning the comments made during the public discussion about the draft of the Animal Protection Act have recently been published. The demand to put a stop to the killing of shelter animals after a period of 60 days was among the most popular ones and  was accepted.

The Croatian Government Passed the Act

After more than 10 years, Croatia has passed the new Animal Protection Act. The proposal of the Act was enacted by the Croatian Government and is now waiting to be adopted by the Croatian Parliament. The new Act prohibits the killing of animals in shelters. During the session, we expressed our support in front of government offices.

Batons and electric prods in Croatian ports

Eurogroup for Animals has launched a campaign #StopTheTrucks, focused on stopping the transport of live animals within and outside the EU. Shocking footage of animal abuse occurring during transportation has recently surfaced, and the latest scenes from the Istrian port of Raša have revealed Croatia’s involvement in this chain of abuse.

Milk: Exposing the Childhood Myths

With a recent opening at the Zagreb Ethnographic Museum, the exhibit "Of animals and humans" has attracted great interest. As part of the exhibition, sociologist Vedran Romac gave an intriguing lecture titled "A fairytale of a happy little cow and a cheerful calf".

Debate: Urban Wildlife

A debate entitled “Urban Wildlife – Coexisting with Wild Animals” has recently been held as part of an ongoing campaign aiming to ease people into coexisting with various species of wild animals. Croatian author Pero Kvesić, the ambassador of the campaign, has described his experiences dealing with wild foxes and emphasized the importance of coexisting with wild animals.

Spay/Neuter, Don't Philosophise!

On the occasion of International Feral Cat Spay Day, veterinary clinics which responded to our appeal castrated up to two street cats at their own cost. Throughout the entire year, in cooperation with veterinarians, we offer the possibility of spaying/neutering dogs and cats at affordable prices or free of charge.

News Flash Summary

- At a public consultation on the new Hunt Closure Regulation, we spoke out against the proposal to extend the hunting season for some species, and we called for the introduction of a hunting ban for all endangered species.

- We reacted to the beginning of this years’ slaughter of baby seals. You, too, can contact the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and ask him to end subsidies for seal hunting.

- We marked this year's Days of Open Doors with information stands on Zrinjevac Square and a social gathering that included the projection of the film Peaceable Kingdom with occasional vegan refreshments.

- Following our official letter and comments during the public debate on the proposal of the Regulation on Municipal Waste, the Croatian Ministry of Environment and Energy decided to remove a provision that included pets in the price of waste collection.

We would like to thank everyone for their needed support, membership and regular following, and for their participation in our activities. We would like to extend that thank you to all those who are offering support to the causes of animal rights and sustainable living.
