School of Nursing Alumni Award nominations are now open


The School of Nursing is honored to recognize five alumni through its awards. Consider nominating someone who deserves recognition for their work in the nursing profession and beyond.
  1. Outstanding Recent Alumnus Award
    This award honors a recent School of Nursing graduate (2009-19) who has demonstrated excellence in his or her nursing career, has been identified as an emerging leader or has made a significant contribution to the profession. Presented during Reunion Weekend.
     
  2. Outstanding Nurse Practice Award
    This award honors a School of Nursing graduate who exemplifies an innovative, collaborative and scholarly approach to his or her practice and contributes to the development of others. Presented during Reunion Weekend.
     
  3. Outstanding Nurse Alumnus Award
    This award honors outstanding contributions of School of Nursing graduates over the course of their nursing career. The recipient is recognized as a leader and expert who has contributed to health-related groups and has impacted the nursing profession with creativity and innovation on a local or national level. Presented during Reunion Weekend.
     
  4. Outstanding Nurse Service Award
    This award honors School of Nursing alumni who have shown outstanding leadership and service to the community, the school or the university, or professional or community organizations. Presented during Reunion Weekend.
     
  5. Paul A. and Veronica H. Gross Achievement Nursing Award
    This award recognizes a professional registered nurse affiliated with VCU academic schools on the MCV/VCU campus or with an accredited postgraduate institution graduate studies program. This biennial cash award will be presented at the VCU School of Nursing Recognition Ceremony in May.
Minimum qualifications
  1. Currently registered (RN) and licensed
  2. A graduate of VCU/MCV School of Nursing undergraduate program
  3. Earned a graduate degree related to leadership and management in their field of study from an accredited institution of graduate studies
  4. Maintain an initiative in a managerial leadership capacity that has made substantial contribution and/or benefit to the institution, health care industry, community, nursing education or within the entrepreneurial marketplace
Help the school continue to recognize outstanding alumni. Deadline is Feb. 1.

SON EVENTS

11:30 a.m. Feb. 12: ‘The Black Angels: A Nurse’s Story’ screening
The School of Nursing presents a free showing of the documentary “The Black Angels: A Nurse’s Story.” The film follows the story of 300 black nurses hired during the tuberculosis outbreak in 1929. Lunch will be provided. RSVP by Friday, Feb. 7, to Amber Yancey (B.S.’07/H&S), alumni relations
and stewardship specialist, at abyancey@vcu.edu.

April 17-9: Reunion Weekend
Celebrate your years at the School of Nursing! If your graduation year ends in 0 or 5, save the date for Reunion Weekend 2020, April 17-19. Many events are planned throughout the weekend to connect you with classmates and the school. More information coming this month.
