Alumni ensure this is the best year yet

Thank you to our donors! 463Dear <<Greeting>>,

The school year has come to an end, and we are so grateful for an enormously successful fiscal year — the best to date for the School of Social Work in the Make It Real Campaign for VCU.

We could not have done this without you, our generous alumni. Through your volunteerism, advocacy and philanthropy, you’ve made this the best year yet.

At an event Thursday, May 30, we celebrated our Dean’s Circle, which honors alumni and community partners who made annual gifts of $1,000 or more within the previous fiscal year. Beth Angell, Ph.D., shared her reflections from her first year as dean, attributing much of the year’s success to our alumni.

Here are a few ways alumni contributed to our success:
  • The School of Social Work launched 105 new B.S.W. graduates and 183 M.S.W. graduates into our field, thanks in large part to alumni who serve as adjunct faculty and field instructors.
  • Alumni giving to the school is at an all-time high, with more than 463 individual donors to the school and university.
  • Five alumni have chosen to leave their legacy gift to the School of Social Work, with more than $680,000 in planned giving recorded.
  • Three new scholarships have been endowed: one for each major program area in support of B.S.W., M.S.W. and Ph.D. students.
Your alma mater greatly appreciates the outpouring of generosity from all of our alumni. You are supporting our school, faculty, staff and, most importantly, the future change agents who will join you as colleagues in the field.

As Dean Angell mentioned in her remarks, this year’s success is just the beginning. We are thrilled to continue working alongside all of you as we seek to provide the best social work education for our students.

Thank you. We could not be more excited for the future of the VCU School of Social Work.

All my best,

Mary Riddick
