After his stage 4 sarcomatoid kidney cancer patient did not respond to standard treatments, Asit Paul, M.D., Ph.D., was the first to try using a new class of immunotherapy drugs known as checkpoint inhibitors. Thomas Bland has been disease-free for more than 2 1/2 years, and the case is so impressive that it was recently published in the Journal of Oncology Practice.
