"First Fridays at First"

Granite City Folk Society and First Presbyterian Church of St. Cloud
collaborate to present a series of concerts, "First Fridays at First."

When possible, these concerts will also be live-streamed.

All the "First Fridays at First" shows begin at 7 PM
and run an hour and a quarter.

~~  One long set with no intermission  ~~
Doors open at 6:30 PM.
Please note the exceptions to the usual First Friday at First rules:
Although Curtis & Loretta is a First Friday show on a Friday,
it's at Bo Diddley's;

and the Skye Consort & Emma Björling show is at First Presbyterian, but on a Thursday.
Our apologies for the lack of consistency, but  scheduling and logistics don't always cooperate with our ideal model.

Dennis Warner and the D’s
First Friday
Fri, Dec 2  7:00
First Presbyterian Church

Singer-songwriter-guitarist-educator Dennis Warner might be a local fella, but he certainly gets around--for example, entertaining aboard a three-masted schooner along the Maine coast. But tonight we have him on dry land, joined by his bandmates, the D's: Dan Neale, guitar and mandolin; Dennis Kennedy, percussion and harmonica; and Alex D. Maiers, bass.

"Warner's music consistently shines in its tight compositions and beautiful melodies." --Kris Bergquist, St. Cloud Times

"Dennis Warner is a wonderful songwriter. I can listen to his music over and over again." --Nancy Walker, Producer, WCCO Radio

Tickets: $15 plus service charge, online through Dec 1.
$20 at door on the evening of the show.

Curtis & Loretta
FRIDAY, Jan 6  7:30
Bo Diddley's

The music of Minnesota perennials Curtis and Loretta comes straight from the heart. They are extraordinary and proficient on a parade of stringed instruments, which create an alluring frame for their poignant original songs, and carefully chosen traditional pieces from the British Isles, America, and beyond. Their current instrumental menagerie includes Celtic harp, mandocello, mandolin, guitar, clawhammer banjo, and National steel ukulele, plus a bit of kazoo, harmonica, and shakers.

"Curtis and Loretta are in many ways the quintessential folk duo: finely honed vocal harmonies of multidimensional intrigue, abundant talent on an array of stringed instruments, deep traditional roots, great originals, and equally strong strains of gravity and playful irreverence." --Rick Mason, City Pages

"Though they write of the common perils and heartaches of life, there is nothing common about the extraordinary traditional folk duo of Curtis & Loretta." --Todd Dawson, Bethlehem Express-Times

Tickets: $15 plus service charge, online through Nov 18.
$20 at door on the evening of the show.

There is limited seating for this show, so we'd suggest buying tickets online to assure a seat.

Skye Consort
& Emma Björling

THURSDAY, Jan 19  7:00
First Presbyterian Church

The name of the act gives a hint of this group's interesting cultural mix: the Ilse of Skye is part of the Hebrides off the northwest coast of Scotland; three members also belong to a Québec-based early music group; and vocalist Emma Björling is Swedish. The band's website description reads "Trans-Atlantic Chamber Folk," which expands to "songs & tunes from Sweden, Norway, Ireland, Scotland, England, Québec, Acadia, the USA, as well as original compositions." So we can expect to encounter some musical variety, with songs and dances accompanied by fiddle, cello, bouzouki, banjo, and nyckleharpa. Bring your traveling ears and we'll go a-wandering.

Tickets: $20 plus service charge, online through Dec 1.
$25 at door on the evening of the show.

Donations are tax deductible and offer donor recognition & thanks. This is not a profitable enterprise. Our ticket sales typically do not quite cover musician compensation, much less printing, advertising, theater rental, insurance, etc., etc. We have in recent years been fortunate to receive grants to help defray expenses, we have received in-kind donations from our season sponsors, and we have also enjoyed increasing support from patrons such as yourselves. Collectively, these are the pieces of the financial puzzle that keep our boat afloat. Please consider a donation. Any amount is greatly appreciated and is tax deductible.
