it was at Bo Diddley's;
and the Skye Consort & Emma Björling show is at First Presbyterian, but on a Thursday.
Our apologies for the lack of consistency, but scheduling and logistics don't always cooperate with our ideal model.

The name of the act gives a hint of this group's interesting cultural mix: the Ilse of Skye is part of the Hebrides off the northwest coast of Scotland; three members also belong to a Québec-based early music group; and vocalist Emma Björling is Swedish. The band's website description reads "Trans-atlantic Chamber Folk," which expands to "songs & tunes from Sweden, Norway, Ireland, Scotland, England, Québec, Acadia, the USA, as well as original compositions." So we can expect to encounter some musical variety, with songs and dances accompanied by fiddle, cello, bouzouki, banjo, and nyckleharpa. Bring your traveling ears and we'll go a-wandering.

Paul Imholte is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and singer best known as a hammered dulcimer player, but he is also on a first-name basis with the fiddle, mandolin, guitar and banjo, and has been seen in the company of the viola, cello, Autoharp, harmonica, jawharp, and spoons. (Forks and butter-knives at mealtimes only, though.) Paul writes and performs music that reflects Central Minnesota: his songs deal with old barns, tractors, kids, migrant workers, rutabagas, reluctant Springs, smoking horses, and ghosts in the attic. Paul has released a dozen albums and, to retain some semblance of sanity during the Covid break, streamed seventy-five online shows on FaceBook between March 2020 and June 2021. Paul also plays with Ring of Kerry, The Tarveys, and the Cristina Seaborn Trio. Tonight he is joined by violinist Cristina Seaborn.

The Boston Imposters

Bo Diddley's
T he Boston Imposters are in reality the duo of Davey Harrison and Maire Clement, who are, despite the name, based in Wisconsin. (Their website reports that when they were in Boston, they were Midwestern Imposters.) They also really sing original and traditional material from the personal to celtic to bluegrass, accompanied by mandolin, guitar, and banjo. Bonus fact: they have a kitten who likes to photobomb their videos.

collaborate to present a series of concerts, "First Fridays at First."
When possible, these concerts will also be live-streamed.
All the "First Fridays at First" shows begin at 7 PM
and run an hour and a quarter.
