Launching our campaign to transform mental health


Victorian families deserve compassionate and responsive mental health support which embraces the whole of self, whole of family (by choice or birth) and whole of life.

The current Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for us to truly transform mental health support for generations to come.

Tandem has a vision for a safe, inclusive, fair and funded Victorian mental health system:

Take the pledge


To make this vision a reality, Tandem needs you to pledge your support. 

Take the pledge to influence the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System to include all of Tandem’s recommendations in its final report due to be released in early February 2021.

Take action to persuade all Victorian Members of Parliament to urgently deliver bipartisan recurrent investment into the Victorian mental health system.

Tandem events in Mental Health Month

Members Meeting this Thursday at 10am


We hope you can join us for the next Tandem Members Meeting this Thursday 8 October at 10am-11:30am.

Gerry Naughtin, Strategic Advisor for Mental Health for the NDIS, will be joining us to provide important updates on the latest key developments in the NDIS. These include updates regarding personalised budgets, plan flexibility to increase participant choice regarding the types of supports and services they can use, and the introduction of Independent Assessments (IA). 

When you register to attend, you will be sent a link which will enable you to login at the allotted time. You will also be given a phone number if you would prefer to dial in to the meeting.

Switch off for a 'mindful moment' with us on October 15th


Michelle Groeber, CEO of Anxiety Recovery Centre (ARCVIC) will run a free 1 hour Mindfulness Workshop as part of Carers Week at our next Tandem Time. Join us to de-stress and discover how to weave mindfulness into your everyday life and remain centered and present during these challenging times. For more information, please see this flyer. 
    
Tandem Time is our regular twice monthly online/phone meet-up for Tandem members and staff to connect with each other, ask questions and stay in touch. 

When you register to attend you will be sent a link that will enable you to login to the meeting at the allotted time and telephone numbers if you prefer to dial in using a telephone.

Virtual Mental Health Expo October 19th  

As part of National Mental Health Month, Mental Health Foundation Australia (MHFA) is hosting the first ever virtual mental health expo for people with mental health challenges, family and friends, mental health workers, social workers and allied health workers to learn about available services and the latest technological advancement in support options.

Tandem is very excited to participate in this Expo, CEO Marie Piu will present about Tandem's Support and Referral Line and our ongoing campaigning and advocacy work.

Tandem Awards 2020 for Exceptional Service to Family and Friends in Mental Health


PLEASE NOTE: Nominations extended to 6th November


Join us to celebrate exceptional service to families and friends in mental health. The Tandem Awards are for people and services who have significantly improved the experience of family and friends of people in the mental health system in Victoria. It is a chance for family and friends supporting someone with mental health challenges to nominate an individual, service or program that practices compassion and family-inclusive practice as part of their day-to-day work.

Important note: we have extended the date to receive nominations until Friday 6th November 2020.

We encourage you to nominate those who have made an exceptional contribution in the areas of NDIS support, working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, women, people over 65 years of age, LGBTIAQ+ people, multicultural communities, children and young people, and in regional areas.

Tandem Continues to Operate Remotely


Call us on our FREE Support and Referral Line at 1800 314 325 on Mondays-Fridays between 9am-5pm. Should you need an interpreter, Tandem can assist you using Language Loop telephone translation service.

If you require individual advocacy with the mental health system, support with the NDIS or the Royal Commission into Victoria’s mental health system. or you just want to touch base, please leave a message with your name and number and how we can support you, and we will arrange for the appropriate person to call you back.

BeyondBlue -  call 1800 512 348 for Beyondblue's Coronavirus Mental Wellbeing Support Service
Lifeline  – Lifeline continues to support Australians via telephone, text and webchat services. Call 13 11 14 24 hours/7 days and text 0477 13 11 14 from 6pm to midnight AEDT, 7 nights a week or Chat online from 7pm to midnight, 7 nights a week.
SuicideLine – call 1300 651 251 for free and anonymous support, 24 hours a day, seven days a week across Victoria. 
Suicide Call Back Service – call 1300 659 467 for this free national service for people having suicidal thoughts, family or friends affected by suicide and healthcare professionals treating suicidal people.
SANE – call 1800 18 7263 for information about mental illness, treatments and support for you and your carer.
Blue Knot - call 1300 657 380 Mon-Sun between 9-5 AEDT or call 1800 421 468 to reach their National Counselling and Referral Service supporting the Disability Royal Commission.
1800RESPECT - will operate as per usual. They are open 24 hours to support people impacted by sexual assault, domestic or family violence and abuse.
Mensline – call 1300 78 99 78 for telephone support, information and referrals for men dealing with relationship issues, or visit their website.
Rainbow Door - provides free support for LGBTIQA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Gender Diverse, Intersex, Queer, Asexual, BrotherBoys, SisterGirls) people and their family and friends. Contact them 10am – 6pm, 7 days a week by calling 1800 729 367, texting 0480 017 246, or emailing support@rainbowdoor.org.au
Kids Helpline - If you are feeling stressed, worried or anxious about COVID-19, Kids Helpline is available to answer your call, email or webchat. Call 1800 55 1800. 
eHeadspace - provides free online support and counselling to young people 12 - 25 and their families and friends. If you’re based in Australia and going through a tough time, eheadspace can help. You can also call Headspace on 1800 650 890. 
Orygen - provides specialist mental health services for young people aged 15 to 25 who reside in the western and north-western regions of metropolitan Melbourne.
