Update on the 2017 MDA Budget

MDA House of Delegates Members:

I would like to provide House of Delegates members with an update on MDA financial operations.

As of June 30, the net income figure of $1,670,499 substantially outperformed the June 2015 net income figure of $32,044. The net income difference is attributable to the timing of the recognition of dues revenue. The Aptify database allows all dues revenue to be recognized when payment is received, it does not have to be distributed evenly throughout the year as was the case with the previous database. The net income figure will be reduced as we proceed throughout the year, with a projected year-end surplus that should compare favorably to the 2016 budget.

MDA staff and the MDA Board Committee on Finance will continue to monitor the financial operations of the MDA to safeguard member dues dollars.

The MDA Board Committee on Finance recently completed preparation of the 2017 MDA budget. The committee reviewed all revenue projections and expense requests, along with new strategic planning objectives. The MDA Board of Trustees identified the passing of a surplus budget and maintaining a healthy reserve level as a priorities. Therefore, the 2017 budget currently includes a $4 dues increase.

House of Delegates members are being given the opportunity to review the budget prior to its submission to the Board of Trustees on Sept. 16. Please view the 2017 MDA Budget (linked below) and email any questions or concerns to me at by Wednesday, Sept. 14. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

MDA Secretary/Treasurer
