Beaver Programme Support Day
Sunday 10th February 2019, 10am to 3.30pm
5th Urmston Scout Group HQ

You said, we did! On the many occasions I have met with leaders around the county there has been a demand to learn, share and develop skills and programme ideas. The aim of the 'Beaver Programme Support Day' is to give new and experienced leaders the opportunity through a variety of workshops to learn new skills that are transferable and help enhance programmes, meet other leaders and share programme ideas and to gain more knowledge around providing scouting for all.

Workshop 1: Aiming for Bronze (10:00-11:00)
The workshop is aimed at discussing and finding solutions to the challenges we face as Beaver Leaders in ensuring that every child achieves their Chief Scout Bronze Award at the end of the Beaver Section.

Workshop 2: Youth Shaped for Beavers (11:00-11:30)
Explore the different ways to use youth shaped in your colonies and how to make adjustments and use those weird and wonderful ideas of the Beavers but also ensure we are meeting programme requirements.

Workshop 3: Programme Swap Shop (11:30-12:15)
Meet other leaders from across the county and share ideas for different areas of the programme. There will be a series of handouts available to take away with programme ideas, tips and tools to develop your Beaver Programme.

Lunch (12:15-12:45) - provided! A choice of Meat & Potato or Cheese Pie and Peas
(tell us your pie preference and tell us about your dietary needs on the booking form, link below)

Workshop 4: Practical Skills (12:45-14:45)
The biggest demand has been to provide an opportunity for Beaver Leaders to learn practical skills that will not only be transferable to Beavers but will also help to enhance your programme. In the two hour session you will be able to have four half an hour masterclasses on bases of your choice delivered by experienced leaders from across our county. The bases include; Knots, Firelighting, Backwoods Cooking, Shelter Building, Axe/Bowsaw and more.

Workshop 5: Scouting for All (14:45-15:30)
This workshop aims to allow leaders to explore scouting for all and to discuss with other leaders the barriers they face in providing inclusive scouting and how to overcome them. There will be a series of activities around making reasonable adjustments for young people in our sections.

Tea, coffee, juice and biscuits will be available throughout the day. If you are staying over the lunch break, lunch is on us! A choice of meat and potato or cheese pie with mushy peas and gravy.

There will also be lots of programme resources for you to take away with you including programme ideas, leaflets and skills cards!

No uniform required.

Damboree Camp 2019
Saturday 8th to 9th June 2019
Bispham Hall Scout Estate

After the huge success from the Beavers Carnival Camp in June 2016 to celebrate the 30th Birthday of Beavers we have decided to have another county camp for Beavers on Saturday 8th to Sunday 9th June 2019 at Bispham Hall Scout Estate.

The camp will be themed around America, with a whole range of activities and fun for young people to take part. The range of activities on offer will meet the criteria of both the Outdoor and Adventure Challenge Badges (a list of activities can be found below).

Beavers will sleep in tents, however to make the experience more enjoyable for leaders the camp will be centrally catered and food will provided for Beavers and Leaders included in the cost. This is an ideal opportunity for leaders will no or little camping experience with their beavers to experience a nights away under canvas as there needs to be only one nights away permit holder attending per district!

The cost for the camp will be £30.00 per Beaver and there will be 1 FREE leader space for every 6 Beavers attending the camp. The cost for additional leaders above this ratio will be £15.00. This cost includes all camping fees, activities and food for the duration of the weekend (a list of activities and menu can be found below). Young Leaders are welcome to attend at the same cost as leaders.

There will be the option for leaders to come to Bispham Hall on the Friday night to set up and also to stay over to await the arrival of their Beavers the following morning.

Beavers should arrive in top half uniform and throughout the weekend wear their necker.

Parents/Carers will be able to bring their Beaver to the campsite in cars, however we would like to encourage car sharing where possible to ensure a smooth arrival and departure from the campsite. Please note, parents/carers will not be allowed beyond the car park and leaders will collect young people from their parents/carers at the car park. Bags will be collected from the car park by the site staff and delivered to each district campsite therefore it is extremely important each young persons belongings are labelled.

The final date for submitting numbers will be Friday 22nd March 2019, please email your numbers of Beavers and Leaders (including Young Leaders) to your ADC who will then pass the information on to me. Each district will then receive an invoice based on those numbers and groups should pay their monies to your district by Friday 19th April 2019, so payment can then be made promptly to the county.

I have attached below a series of useful documents:
