A Message from the WVU Carruth Center
The Carruth Center provides a variety of services, including Short-Term Counseling, Talkspace, and Care Management. In addition to those services, the Carruth Center offers new groups and workshops each semester.
Groups allow students to connect with peers and a therapist in a safe and confidential environment. Groups are held weekly throughout the semester. The following groups are currently being offered:
- Understanding Self & Others
- Managing Your Emotions
- Real Talk: A Healing Community for BIPOC Students
- Qmmunity
- Graduate Student Support
- Survivors of Sexual & Gender-Based Trauma Support
- Coping with College-Support Group for First-Year Freshman
Students who are interested in joining a group must schedule an initial appointment by calling 304-293-4431 or going
online.
Workshops are a great way students can learn skills and practical ways to manage their thoughts and feelings. Workshops are typically a 3–4 week commitment and no initial appointment is needed to join. The following workshops are currently being offered:
- Anxiety 101
- Mindfulness Workshop
- International Support Space
- Asian American Pacific Islander Support
- The Body Project
Students can visit our
website and contact the clinician directly if they are interested in joining a workshop.
This Spring, our
Let’s Chat series is in a different location each Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. The Carruth Center staff will rotate between the residence halls to meet with students on a drop-in basis. This is a great way for your student to talk with a clinician about challenges they may be experiencing.
Counselors are available 24/7. Students who may be experiencing a crisis or a more urgent need can utilize the
Urgent/Crisis Clinic Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students can access after-hours support by calling 304-293-4331 (option 1) to speak with a counselor.
