This week's routes (to Local 44 Bottle Shop)

Have you heard? There used to be a creek that ran right through West Philly, but then folks moved in and basically turned it into a giant sewer. At that point they decided to just make it official and they just BURIED Mill Creek by encasing it in a 30' diameter pipe. Oh, then the pipe just collapsed in a bunch of spots and took out blocks of homes.

These days, the old Mill Creek watercourse is dotted with gardens and parks. We're going to do some exploring in honor of this West Philly legacy. Our run will take us past Plotland Community Garden, Walnut Hill Farm, Mill Creek Playground, Mill Creek Farm, West Mill Creek Park, (then coming back down and around to) Woodland Playground, Clark Park and the Lower Mill Creek Garden. This week's routes are a bit windy, so study up.

Upcoming Run Sport Events

You can check out everything that's coming up at the website, but this stuff is really important...
The Health Trails 5K on April 13 is up along the Frankford Creek Trail is similar to the much lauded (by me) Cobbs Creek 5K. All funds raised go to supporting programming at the park.
The ODDyssey Half Marathon crew are organizing a cool Bridge Run and Happy Hour Training Program and WPR is a big part of it. On April 15th WPR is the featured club at this cool happy hour training run. All WPRs are invited to join for the run and for a complimentary drink afterwards. If you want to join, please RSVP to this event so they have a head count. Run begins at 6th and Race, goes over the Ben Franklin Bridge and ends at Buffalo Billiards.
"There is no better way to rehydrate than with a cold one and there is no better way to make new running friends than to go out and pound out a few miles before celebrating over a cold one. Each week we will also be highlighting one of the city's great running clubs and one of the city's great running charities."
