Hollie Cook's Galspiration Day

As part of our ongoing playlist series, we’ve started enlisting the help of our artists to curate personal mixtapes celebrating the tracks and artists who have influenced their sound – so welcome to the first in our Inspirations playlist…

Commemorating 100 years since the Representation of the People Act was passed, granting some women in the UK the right to vote for the first time, Hollie Cook has compiled a playlist highlighting revolutionary female artists in the music industry. Hollie’s career began when family friend and punk trailblazer Ari Up asked Cook, age 19 at the time, to join the raucous ’70s feminist UK post-punk outfit The Slits for their reformation in 2006.
Her new album, ‘Vessel of Love’, is a blend of sugary pop and smooth reggae, and was featured on Refinery29 as part of a feature which shines a spotlight on inspirational female artists. With further support from GuardianPitchfork, Noisey and BBC Radio 6 Music, Hollie now finds herself in the UK Independent Album Chart and at the number 1 spot on the US Billboard Reggae Chart – she’s also just embarked on an international tour, set to inspire future artists with her tropical pop anthems. Enjoy the playlist here and check the dates below...
