When Jon Simmonds felt the call to plant a church, he didn’t know what he was getting into. He didn’t necessarily follow the set play book for planters and his church, The Table, is not your average church plant.
Jon had been in ministry for over a decade and was serving as a youth pastor when he felt led to plant a church. Jon gathered a team and they began meeting as a small group in January of 2015. Just a few months later, the Table’s story starts to deviate from normal.
In April 2015, a pastor in St. Peters, Missouri contacted Jon & his team about using their building and becoming a legacy congregation to support the Table. After pursuing God, the Table took over the building and the congregations merged. Jon received funding from his state ministry to remodel the building and to get personally equipped as a pastor through assessments and coaching.
When they began the remodel, Jon and his team didn’t just update the building. They reimagined how to do church out of the current site. The team wanted to create a very missional environment at The Table to reach their community, and especially the people in the community who avoided the traditional Sunday morning experiences.
