An enjoyable A+W•NZ Black Friday Breakfast
To cap off an inspiring NZIA In:situ Conference week, A+W•NZ held a Black Friday Breakfast at Soul in the Viaduct. What a perfect way to start the day before many rushed off for the conference site tours - guests were welcomed with a glass of bubbly and treated to amazing food and service from the Soul staff. Over 70 people turned up to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, providing a good way to continue the conversations started during the excellent and substantial conference week, especially with conference speakers Sarah Whiting and Ana Velez who were at the breakfast. The general theme of the morning was mentoring, with the conversation kick-started by an inspiring Amanda Stanes. Amanda is Director of Advancement at Auckland Grammar School, and previously from the Business School at the University of Auckland. (She is also from an architectural family, being the mother of a current student and the daughter of John Sutherland.) Amanda talked of the importance of relationships in developing healthy and rewarding careers, and stressed the importance of helping young graduates connect with potential mentors. A+W•NZ intend to continue this discussion throughout 2015 and will be hosting more mentoring events soon. A big thank you to Warren and Mahoney, who generously supported the event. Very much appreciated.

Thank You to NZIA for the In:Situ Conference
A+W•NZ would also like to acknowledge the NZIA organising committee for the In:Situ Conference 2015 - events such as these take a huge amount of planning and hard work, and more importantly the wisdom to pull together such an interesting lineup. We enjoyed the passionate conversations which resulted from such a wide variety of academic, historical and practice-based presentations.
We also enjoyed the gender balance not only of the speakers, but also of the audience. It is no longer a sea of dark suits, folks! Welcome, too, were the young audience family members, from babies to teenagers. Most of us know that architecture permeates the entire family, and it is nice to see this in action at the conference.

Te Aranga Maori Panel
The NZIA organising committee also had the wisdom to include a Maori world-view on the official programme - we think for the first time in the history of the Institute, but please correct us if we have got that wrong. We salute you, and look forward to many more such positive changes.
