Three creation projects in dance for young and family audiences in residence at Sursaut

The company is happy to announce the three projects that were selected in the context of the call for creation projects in dance for young audiences, launched last fall. The artists will benefit from a residency at the Centre des arts de la scène Jean-Besré, in order to develop their choreographic project. The proposals that were chosen stand out through the quality and depth of their artistic vision, in which movement is at the heart of the creative process.

A pioneer in Canada in the creation of dance for young and family audiences, Sursaut wished to offer a platform to support choreographic research in dance for young audiences. Being their first venture into the universe of creation for youth, this opportunity will permit these three artists to deepen their artistic approach in this direction.

We look forward to greeting them in our studios!

> In residence from May 10th to 14th 2021

Originally from France, Morgane Le Tiec is a multidisciplinary artist-performer and choreographer. After several years as a dancer for, among others, La la la Human Steps, Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal, the company Marie Chouinard and Cirque du Soleil, Morgane is now exploring choreography. She creates numerous projects, always looking for ways to integrate other art forms in her work (video, literature, sculpture, theatre). She also looks to expand the depth of her work by collaborating with other artists. Her creations have won her several prizes, including the Audience Prize in 2015 from the FQD for Sous ma peau, then the Jury Prize in an urban context from the FQD in 2018 for Au-delà des ecchymoses.

Inspired by Greek mythology, her project Olympus is a piece for six dancers. By putting to dance the different mythic characters, the choreographer wishes to bring the young audience to plunge into the universe of these legends, which are an expression of universal culture.

> In residence from May 31st to June 12th 2021

Julien Derradj began his performing career in 2014 with the Compagnie au Fait in Lyon. The following year, he begins studies at l’école supérieure du Centre National de Danse Contemporaine d’Angers. He receives his diploma in 2017, and moves to Quebec, where he pursues his choreographic research in the Master’s program in dance at the Université du Québec à Montréal. At the same time, he gains considerable experience teaching dance. Involved with youth, he passes on a passion for movement to large numbers of children be they in educational day cares, or adolescent audiences. As a choreographer, Julien has been presenting his own creations as well as those of Compagnie Le Rorqual, of which he is a co-founding member. In 2020, he joins the Sursaut Dance Company as a dancer in the production Echos.

Les Bestioles is a choreographic tale for four performers, a microscopic journey that wishes to explore the different possibilities of the body in the incarnation and transformation of some curious creatures.

> In residence from June 21st to July 2nd 2021

Idan Cohen is an Israeli multidisciplinary artist. He was trained as a classical piano player, and he studied theater and fine arts. Cohen holds a BA (2015) and an MFA (2017) in choreography from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. In 1998, Cohen joined the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, where he danced for 7 seasons. Since 2005, Cohen has been creating, performing and teaching internationally as a choreographer and opera director. In 2017 Cohen opened Ne. Sans Opera & Dance in Vancouver. Ne. Sans is a home for the research and creation of work that seeks to deepen and re-connect Opera and Dance.

Let the games begin! is a project at the intersection of music, theatre and dance, which will be looking into the core of the 'act' of performance on stage, and in life, drawing its inspiration from iconic, timeless imagery of clowns.
Six of the company’s dancers will work with the invited choreographer:
Stéphanie Brochard
Amandine Garrido Gonzalez
Raphaëlle Renucci
Joachim Yensen-Martin
Flora Spang
Julien Derradj
