The Gratitude Edition

Thank you to everyone who helped make an impact in the lives of CDI's children, youth and families in 2016. In this special issue of our newsletter, we feature five stories of incredible generosity that were especially meaningful to our agency over the last year. We hope you enjoy them.

Celebrating Fusion Design Group’s creative contributions to CDI

Front row (L-R): Allyssa Millard, Jaimie
Hallarn and Ellen Foster.
Over the last four years, the team at Fusion Design Group has designed countless unique and creative projects for CDI including materials for our Taste of Home program, our annual reports, and the SNAP Resource Guide.

In addition to producing high-quality materials at a reduced rate and donating pro-bono hours to CDI’s projects, the team has also donated thousands of dollars in support of our programs and services.

“CDI is doing great work that we respect, and we’re happy to help support the work that you do,” says Brent Long, co-founder of Fusion Design Group. “CDI is a lean, grassroots-based organization, and we feel like we can really help make a difference by helping the agency stand out to donors and families,” he says.

Wenban family shines as longstanding supporters of the Integra Program

The Towhee Summer Residential Program, located in Haliburton, Ontario, is a unique therapeutic program for children and youth ages 10 to 18 years with learning disabilities and mental health issues.
We are very grateful to the Wenban family for their thoughtful donation to the Towhee Summer Residential Program this past year. With their generous support, CDI was able to purchase two mountain bikes and several high-quality Thermarest camping mattresses for the summer of 2016.

This dual focus for the Wenban family donation was the suggestion of their son, Harry, now a Masters of Social Work student at the University of Toronto and a senior Towhee staff member. Harry’s idea was that the mountain bikes would be a way to remind Towhee staff how much they are valued and that camping mattresses would help campers to rest better and get the most from their out-trips.

Families in need received generous gift
of toys in time for the holidays

Toronto Spin Master staff outside their former head office on Front Street West, Toronto.
Thanks to a generous donation by Spin Master—a leading Canadian company known for coveted children’s products like Meccano and Kinetic Sand—children in CDI’s Family Violence Services programs received the gift of high quality toys over the holiday season. The donation benefited families who are currently supported by CDI, including some who are residing in the city’s shelters.

As well, CDI’s SNAP® headquarters was fortunate to receive a much-needed donation of top-notch furniture, graciously passed on by Spin Master as a result of their office relocation. On behalf of our staff, and the children and families we serve, we thank Spin Master’s entire team for these wonderful gifts!

University of Toronto students select CDI as charity partner for special event

RCAS Cares is an annual philanthropic and networking event that brings together the University of Toronto’s top accounting students and Canada’s “big four” accounting firms.
Thank you to the Rotman Commerce Accounting Society for their donation to CDI’s Mothers in Mind program last November, through their annual RCAS Cares event. The charitable component of the event included raising cash donations through a “wear your jeans” initiative and creating holiday-themed gifts for families in CDI’s Family Violence Services.

Holiday gift baskets for families in need

The employees from BMO’s Business Process & Digitization group coordinated the baskets for families living in CDI partner shelters.  Pictured here: (L-R) Tammy MacDougall (with CDI), Nicole Tryhorn and Nicole Taylor (both with BMO).
We are pleased to thank a group of special employees at BMO who created and donated gift baskets for mothers and children in our Family Violence Services last December. The beautifully decorated baskets included toiletries and gifts for mothers and personally chosen toys for their children.
“I think I can speak for the whole group that, through this project, we feel we made a real difference. To understand the benefit of these programs for children and mothers participating is truly special,” says Nicole Tryhorn with BMO's Business Process and Digitization group.
