Strategic Planning Launch

Dear Firebird Nation,

I am pleased to formally launch the UDC strategic planning process. Much work has already gone into this effort’s “planning to plan” phase. This includes the town hall in May introducing the campus community to LINK Strategic Partners. They will be lending their technical expertise to the planning process, facilitating many of our meetings, and ultimately drafting the update to The Equity Imperative that will be reviewed and approved by the Board of Trustees later this year. The planning-to-plan preparation also included convening a “Brain Trust,” which encompassed representative leadership from various stakeholder groups, including the Board of Trustees, our collective bargaining units and faculty, staff, students, executive cabinet and other constituents from across the institution. The Brain Trust report can be found here.

Guided by the key points from the Brain Trust conversation, the strategic planning process will invite input and perspectives from a broad and far-reaching band of UDC students, employees, friends, allies and affiliates—internal and external. The current Equity Imperative webpage will house updates to the strategic planning process, including a brief survey whereby anyone with the link can directly contribute their voice and perspective to the development of the strategic plan. This process will also feature focus groups, town halls and meetings specifically targeting constituents and stakeholders from within the institution and beyond. Look for campus updates and invitations to these important meetings as the final meeting schedule becomes available.

Much of the work supporting this effort will emerge from two representative teams. First is the Strategic Planning Working Group, which includes an array of institutional representatives who will inform vital planning milestones and ensure we account for the diverse perspectives and priorities from all corners of the UDC community. Along with the Working Group, the Strategic Planning Advisory Committee is an expansion of the Brain Trust that will provide broad oversight to the planning process and the development of the updated Equity Imperative. The composition of these two teams can be found here. I have asked the Chief of Staff and Senior Vice President, Dr. Monique Guillory, to serve as the strategic planning coordinator, to ensure ongoing communication leading to the development of the updated plan, and to work with our LINK partners and stakeholder groups as this process unfolds.

We need to hear from you and would appreciate your input as we develop the strategic plan for UDC’s future. There will be multiple opportunities to learn more about and contribute to strategic planning at UDC, including the survey that will soon be available, special focus groups, town halls and other meetings, or a thirty-minute one-on-one conversation with me, which you can still schedule by emailing Diedre Robinson. We are greatly encouraged by our progress in realizing The Equity Imperative, but we know that more milestones, achievements and outcomes await us. We are committed to ensuring that every stage of our work together is collaborative and inclusive and look forward to your joining us on this journey.
