|Rebuilding the Crib Groyne
Work on rebuilding the Crib Groyne at the entrance to Pwllheli harbour is now underway. It is hoped the new cone shaped design and stone construction will provide better protection from the waves and help reduce sediment at the mouth of the channel. The previous structure was over 30 years old. The work is expected to be completed early March 2020.
Dredging works agreed
Plans to dredge the harbour entrance to maintain its design depth have been scheduled for March 2020. As previously the silt will be cleared using land-based machinery.
Removal of dredged material
Tenders have also been invited to remove the stockpile of sand and gravel piled up on the spit at the entrance to the harbour as well as the dredged material in the held in the stilling lagoon opposite the pontoons. It is hoped some of this material will have commercial value as building materials.
High speed broadband
A new fibre optic broadband connection has now been installed into the marina offices. This will improve internet speeds for berth holders logging on to the marina WiFi network on the pontoons. The faster connection will also allow for the installation of wireless webcams with live streaming soon to be available on the Hafan website. More details to follow.
Improvements to showers and toilets block
Work on upgrading the ladies’ washroom has now been completed. At the request of berth holders, the shower doors have been changed and moved plus additional mirrors and coat hooks installed. An automatic door, like the one at the entrance to the marina office, will soon be installed at the entrance to the block (see picture below) to cut down drafts, retain heat and increase security.
Hot water alert
In readiness for the new season the old boiler serving the shower and toilet block will be replaced next month. While the work is being carried out there will be no hot water for showers for a short period of time. The work is essential so please accept our apologies for any inconvenience.
The latest edition of the Hafan Pwllheli handbook was published earlier this month. The booklet includes information on the marina's facilities, boatyard services, tide tables, pilotage notes and local services. Download
a copy now (6mb) from the website. If you require additional hard copies, please enquire at reception. All berth holders will receive a copy in the post with their annual renewal licence before the end of January. If you do not receive your copy, please get in touch.
