Massey Director Gordon Ginder honored for 22 years of leadership
Hundreds gathered Sept. 5 for a research symposium to honor Gordon Ginder, M.D., who is stepping down as director of VCU Massey Cancer Center after 22 years. The event featured personal reflections from Ginder’s colleagues and highlights of the scientific achievements during his tenure at Massey. The symposium was followed by a dinner, where donors and other guests thanked him for his leadership.

NCI Cancer Moonshot grant supports new approach to boost immunotherapies at Massey
While immunotherapies have revolutionized the treatment of many cancers, nearly two-thirds of patients do not respond to them. Funded by a $2.1 million National Cancer Institute grant, researchers Xianjun Fang, Ph.D., and Shawn Wang, Ph.D., are combining their expertise in an effort to improve those response rates.

Massey oncologists echo findings on reducing risk of recurrence for some breast cancer patients
Masey Ross, M.D., and Charles Geyer Jr., M.D., offer expert commentary in an editorial in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. They discuss findings of a large study by German investigators that a modified drug combination could lead to a lower chance of recurrence for women with high-risk, HER2 negative breast cancer.

Deborah Norville to keynote the 25th annual Women & Wellness Breakfast and Luncheon
Deborah Norville will speak at the Women & Wellness Breakfast and Luncheon presented by the Anthony F. and Susan M. Markel Foundation and Markel Corp. Norville is a cancer survivor, philanthropist, author and anchor of “Inside Edition.” The Feb. 4 event benefits women’s cancer research at Massey.
