Alumnus named president-elect of the American Academy of Nursing board

VCU School of Nursing alumnus Kenneth R. White, Ph.D., AGACNP-BC, ACHPN, FACHE, FAAN (B.S.’95/N; M.S.’95/N; Ph.D.’96/HP), associate dean for strategic partnerships and innovation at the University of Virginia School of Nursing, was named president-elect of the American Academy of Nursing’s board of directors at the organization’s annual induction ceremony and policy conference in October. Global initiatives crowdfunding campaign helps more students

Thank you to everyone who donated to our student global initiatives crowdfunding campaign in November. We raised $4,025! These funds will help defray costs of our two global initiative programs, a yearly service learning trip to Guatemala and a summer exchange program with the University of Córdoba in Spain. Your support allows more students to participate.

IRA charitable rollovers: A unique and easy way to give

Michele and Don Romano learned about IRA charitable rollovers through the MCV Foundation. This donation method not only helps the recipient, but it can also help donors reduce their taxes. Individuals older than 70½ must withdraw annually (a “required minimum distribution”) from their IRAs, a taxable event. With an IRA charitable rollover, donors can give the required minimum distribution, or a portion thereof, directly to the charity of their choice; those donated funds are not taxed. Read more.

Alumna receives Lifetime Achievement Award for philanthropic efforts

Please join us in congratulating alumna Judy Collins, RN, WHNP-BC, FAAN (Cert.’75/N) and her husband, Joe Teefey, for the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals Central Virginia Chapter. The couple, both MCV Foundation Lifetime Honorary Trustees, received well-deserved recognition for their decades of work making Central Virginia a safer, healthier place to live. Read more.

School of Nursing now accepting Alumni Award nominations


Every year during Reunion Weekend, the School of Nursing recognizes four alumni, nominated by their peers, with the Outstanding Recent Alumnus Award, the Outstanding Nurse Practice Award, the Outstanding Nurse Alumnus Award and the Outstanding Nurse Service Award.

The school is pleased to announce a new award in 2020, the Paul A. and Veronica H. Gross Achievement in Nursing Award, to be presented at the Spring 2020 Recognition Ceremony.

You can review the awards at the link below and nominate someone worthy for 2020. Deadline to submit nominations is Feb. 1, 2020. Make a nomination.

April 17-19: Reunion Weekend
Celebrate your years at the School of Nursing! If your graduation year ends in 0 or 5, save the date for Reunion Weekend 2020, April 17-19. Many events are planned throughout the weekend to connect you with classmates and the school. More information coming in January.
