Gaurav Bansal 
Principal Researcher, Toyota Information Technology Center

Gaurav is the Principal Researcher at the Toyota Info Technology Center in Mountain View, CA, where he leads several research initiatives on the design of communication systems for Automated Driving. Gaurav is an expert in Vehicular Communications, pioneering contributions in Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) congestion control and in innovative use-cases to leverage connectivity in cars. His current research interests also include millimeter wave & full-duplex wireless communications. Gaurav represents Toyota in the Automakers’ Vehicle Safety Communication Consortium and in the SAE, ETSI standardization bodies. Gaurav's paper on DSRC Congestion Control received the Best Paper Award at the IEEE WiVEC Symposium. He also holds several patents in the field. Gaurav serves in the editorial board of IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine and IEEE Connected Vehicles Initiative. Gaurav holds Electrical Engineering degrees from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and The University of British Columbia.

Holger Weiss 
Founder & CEO, German Autolabs

Holger G. Weiss is founder and CEO of German Autolabs. He has over 15 years of experience managing and building technology-driven companies with innovative business models in the Future Mobility sector. He has extensive experience and expertise in the field of connected mobility. He played a vital role in the navigation software startup gate5 in Berlin, from its genesis up to its acquisition by Nokia in 2006. Gate5 was the forerunner for HERE - a map and content provider recently bought by three German car makers at a price of close to three billion Euros. 

Before founding German Autolabs, Holger G. Weiss was managing director and CEO of Aupeo. Under his leadership, this music streaming startup developed into one of the leading providers of Internet-based audio content for the Automotive Industry. In 2013 Aupeo was acquired by Panasonic Automotive Systems of North America. 

Holger G. Weiss is a board member for various technology companies and also Venture Partner at Target Partners - one of the leading VC companies in Europe. Besides his business activities, he is also an enthusiastic mentor and business angel for young aspiring founders. He consults medium-sized companies as well as tech and industry related associations.

Tao Wang 

Tao Wang is Co-Founder of He has over 7 years of experience in machine learning research, has published multiple academic papers on deep learning, and is the main contributor to the widely used SVHN dataset. He holds an MS in Computer Science from Stanford University, and is a recipient of the Siebel Scholarship and The Christofer Stephenson Memorial Award for Graduate Research.

Wei Luo 
COO & Head of Product, DeepMap

Wei received her PhD degree from UC Berkeley on GIS and Remote Sensing. She worked for 9+ years at Google, leading various product and engineering efforts, spanning from Google Earth, Google Maps, Geo Enterprise, Location Intelligence and more. She is currently the COO and Head of Product at DeepMap. DeepMap provides High Definition (HD) maps as a service to autonomous vehicles.

Donny Seyfer 
Co-Owner, Seyfer Automotive

Donny Seyfer is co-owner of Seyfer Automotive with 35 years of automotive experience as a technician, manager and service consultant. Founded in 1961 Seyfer Automotive provides general repair, maintenance and diagnostic services to owners of late model American, Asian VW and Jaguar automobiles and trucks with a special focus on diagnostic and difficult to solve problems. Seyfer Auto also provides performance and restoration services for American classic cars from the 50s –mid 70s. 

Donny serves as an industry consultant to several investment firms, writes a monthly technical column for Babcox Media, teaches technicians about 70 nights a year and is recognized as an industry leader in telematics and connected cars. 

Like his father before him, he serves as chairman, National Automotive Service Association which represents thousands of independent mechanical and collision shop owners across America.

The SVIEF-STAR Startup Contest is one of the brands of the Silicon Valley Technology Innovation & Entrepreneurship Forum (SVIEF), of which the main purpose is to provide a high-end and outstanding learning, networking and developing platform for Chinese and American startup projects
