Peter Marx Vice President of Advanced Projects, GE Digital; Adjunct Professor, USC

Prior to coming to GE, Peter Marx was the Chief Technology Officer for the City of Los Angeles. Under his tenure, the City implemented the first open data portal in the U.S, a cyber-intrusion command center (CICC), city-wide broadband via CityLinkLA, significant improvements in fire dispatch and control, partnerships with numerous technology providers, and the nation’s largest deployment of body-worn cameras for police officers. Jay Kuo Professor, USC

Dr. C.-C. Jay Kuo is Professor of Electrical Engineering and Director of the Media Communications Lab at the University of Southern California. He received the B.S. degree from the National Taiwan University, Taipei, in 1980 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, in 1985 and 1987, respectively, all in Electrical Engineering. His research interests are in the areas of multimedia signal processing, multimedia compression, artificial intelligence and machine learning. He has guided 140 students to their PhD degrees and supervised 25 postdoctoral research fellows. Currently, his research lab at USC (http://mcl.usc.edu) has around 20 Ph.D. students. He is a co-author of more than 1000 papers and 14 books. He is a Fellow of AAAS, IEEE and SPIE. Professor Kuo was Chief Scientist of InterVideo (1998-2006) and Mediateck (2007-2010). He is currently Chief Scientist of YYD Robo.

Modar Alaoui Founder/CEO, Eyeris

Modar is a tech entrepreneur and expert in Artificially Intelligent vision technologies, Deep Learning and Ambient Intelligence. He is currently founder and CEO at Eyeris, the worldwide leading Deep Learning-based emotion recognition software. He is a frequent speaker and keynoter on “Ambient Intelligence” as the next frontier in AI, a winner of several technology and innovation awards and has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, the Huffington Post, Bloomberg and many other major publications for his work.

Shiva Prakash Senior Director of Product Management, Yahoo

Shiva Prakash is Senior Director of Product Management at Yahoo, and leads platform initiatives for the creation of conversational agents. This initiative seeks to simplify the creation, training and distribution of dialog-ready assistive agents in both voice and text based consumer environments. Over the past year, these efforts enabled the launch of Yahoo's bots. Previously, Shiva led Product Management for the Yahoo Small Business group, which served hundreds of thousands of businesses internationally and included E-Commerce products that enabled over $70B in transaction volume.

Ren Wu Founder & CEO, NovuMind Inc

Dr. Ren Wu is the Founder and CEO of NovuMind Inc, where he is leading the effort to push the frontier of artificial intelligence (AI) via high-performance and heterogeneous computing. His dream is to make AI be omnipotent and omnipresent. He was the distinguished scientist at Baidu Research where he and his team have designed and built a supercomputer dedicate for deep learning, and have achieved world’s best results on many image recognition tasks. Prior to joining Baidu, Ren served as chief software architect of Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA) at AMD. Earlier, he was the principal investigator of CUDA Research Center at HP Labs, where he is widely known for his pioneering work in using GPUs to accelerate big data analytics and large-scale machine learning algorithms. Ren is also known for his early work on artificial intelligence. His Xiangqi (Chinese chess) program was twice world champion and have dominated computer Xiangqi field for more than a decade. He was the first person to perform systematic research computationally on Xiangqi endgames with astonishing discoveries.

Patrick Egan is the editor of the Americas Desk at sUAS News and host and Executive Producer of the sUAS News Podcast Series, Drone TV and the Small Unmanned Systems Business Exposition.

Experience in the field includes assignments with the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command Battle Lab investigating solutions on future warfare research projects. Instructor for LTA (Lighter Than Air) ISR systems deployment teams for a OSD, U.S. Special Operations Command, Special Surveillance Project. Mei-Yuh Hwang VP of Engineering, Mobvoi U.S

Mei-Yuh Hwang received her PhD in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University in 1994. She majored in acoustic modeling for speech recognition, learning from Dr. Raj Reddy, Kai-Fu Lee, and Xuedong Huang. She had worked at Microsoft, U.S. and China, for 18 years, in speech recognition, machine translation, and language understanding. She led the science work behind Chinese Cortana during 2012-2016. She is now a VP of Engineering at Mobvoi U.S., pushing Mobvoi in AI technologies. She is also an affiliated professor at University of Washington.

Leo Pang Founder, Slightech

Dr. Linyong (Leo) Pang is the founder and CEO of Slightech, a Silicon Valley / China startup focusing on AI centered smart hardware and robot. Dr. Pang has 14 years entrepreneur and executive management experience in Silicon Valley and China: he was the founder and co-founder of 4 companies, involved one IPO on NASDAQ and three acquisitions. He led the last company from the startup all the way to the final acquisition. Dr. Pang held 31 patents, 25 more pending, and is an author of 65 publications. He is a committee member of SPIE conference and symposium chair of CSTIC. Dr. Pang received a B.S. and a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), a M.S. in Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. He was the President of the Association of Chinese Students and Scholars at Stanford (ACSSS) in 1997.

Steven Ray Research Fellow, Carnegie Mellon University(Silicon Valley)

Dr. Steven Ray is a Distinguished Research Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University Silicon Valley, where he researches information interoperability and standards in application domains including smart electrical grid, medical devices, disaster management, and manufacturing. A common theme of his work is the use of ontologies and formal representations to ensure unambiguous definitions of terms and relations. He has a twenty-seven-year track record of initiating and leading technical R&D projects at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, Maryland. For the past decade, he was responsible for the management of a $10-13M division of 60 staff and visiting researchers dedicated to the solution of national problems related to measurements and standards supporting systems interoperation in the manufacturing sector.

Ashok Banerjee CTO, Enterprise Security Products, Symantec

Ashok Banerjee is CTO for Enterprise Security Products at Symantec and has previously led cloud efforts at Google. Twitter, Flipkart. These efforts span across the entire Cybersecurity spectrum and large scale data collection, machine learning and game theory and large cloud processing to make every device safer. It literally takes a cloud of analysis to make the simple device safer. These efforts span endpoint security, network security, email security, compliance and vulnerability etc. In previous roles Ashok has led initiatives in the cloud for ECommerce, File Sync and Share, User Growth, Big Data and Analytics and Monetization.

Eric Du CTO, Business Data Network, SAP

Eric Du is the chief technology officer & Head of Engineering of the Business Data Network group at SAP. He leads the engineering teams to build the big data infrastructure and the data-driven applications, through the full software development cycle, be accountable for strategy, planning and execution. In this role, he is also responsible for the strategic partnerships, ISV program and overall ecosystem engagement required for the data business success. Prior to this role, he served as the technology advisor to the global CTO of SAP, which he contributed to the technology and product strategy, customer and strategic partnerships, conducted many M&A due diligences, acted as the cross-functional leadership role of many strategic projects. He also served as the technology advisor and big data expert role to many startups in the Silicon Valley and globally.

Jason Geng Founder and CEO, Data Application Lab

Jason is the Founder and CEO of Data Application Lab (DataAppLab.com), which provide big data and data analytics trainings and enterprise consulting service. Jason is guest lecture of University of Southern California. His classes cover data science, business analytics, SQL and No-SQL database. As the founder of Data Engineer and Scientist Association (ideassn.org), Jason organized SoCal Data Science Conference 2016, 2017 Dallas Data Science Conference and 2017 Chicago Data Science Conference. When worked at Symantec, Jason designed and implemented big data infrastructure and many data science applications.

Janet George Fellow and Chief Data Officer, Western Digital

Janet George is a seasoned technical leader with more than 15 years of experience in Big Data platforms, machine learning, distributed computing, compliers and artificial intelligence. As Chief Data Scientist at Western Digital, George builds global core competencies. Her responsibilities include shaping, driving and implementing the Big Data platform, products and technologies using advanced analytics and pattern matching with semiconductor manufacturing data from the ground up. Prior to joining Western Digital, George served as managing director, chief scientist and Big Data expert at Accenture Technology Labs, where she was responsible for Big Data, machine learning, cognitive computing and open-innovation.
